Half a century ago, 55 Alaskans sat down to examine the issues facing Alaska, and determine how a future state could best serve those needs. The result: the constitution for the state of Alaska. This morning, the delegates voted on action plans for the various topics. After a few heated debates on topics ranging from gay marriage to aerial wolf hunting and quite a few standing ovations, the delegates reached an agreement that will be filed into a report that will be distributed throughout Alaska. - COYA connects future leaders
If you were to take a morning walk into Wood Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Sunday Jan. 15, and you would see the Convention of Young Alaskans well underway. Young people aged 14 to 24 waited for coffee or talked to some of the state's most prominent politicians. READ MORE

This weekend, 55 young people from all over the state gathered on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, each one here to represent his or her home community at the first-ever Conference of Young Alaskans. The conference commemorates the 50 th anniversary of Alaska's original Constitutional Convention. READ MORE
- Saturday afternoon update
The Conference of Young Alaskans commenced last night in Fairbanks, Alaska. The conference, set to mimic the Alaska Constitutional Convention of 1955, will be held over the next three days. Fifty-five young Alaskans, ranging from the ages of 14-25 are acting as delegates, tackling five different issues that pertain to the state and its future. These topics; education, natural resources, communities and families, leadership and the "Alaska dream," will guide the delegates as they build a future for Alaska. READ MORE

On Saturday Jan. 14, the 55 Conference of Young Alaskans delegates are gathered in a meeting reminiscent of a legislative session in order to discuss and vote on goals developed for the five conference topics.
