Many people suggest that boredom is a disease. Lots of teens in Alaska wonder, "Is there anything to do here?" Sure, there's a movie on TV or there's your wonderful little Xbox, but Anchorage has a lot of secret hot spots to hit up. "In Other News"offers our five cures to the Alaska-boredom disease. Are you a fan of live shows? If so, Bitoz Café is the place for you. Offering a wide variety of concerts from hip-hop acts to alternative bands, it stays true to their new motto - there's always a Bitoz. So, you might not be in the mood for a live show, but are you the type of person who enjoys the art of skateboarding? Well then, see if Indo Skate Park is your cup of tea. Indo Skate Park is a place for teens to grind the rails and shred the ramps indoors because, well, I don't think doing ollies in three feet of snow works too well. So if you're sitting at home playing your Tony Hawk Pro-Skater video game or envying the styles of Bam Margera and Bob Burnquist or your TV set, you can get out to Indo and rip it up. Do you live for the adrenaline rush but don't fancy the road-rash you get skating? Two buildings away from Indo Skate Park you'll come across the Alaska Rock Gym. It's huge, colorful rock walls and teen-friendly staff make the atmosphere welcoming. They have teen classes for all abilities and have a committed base of teens who love to cling to the walls. So study up on your belaying and repelling skills so you can head on down to the Alaska Rock Gym. And what do you do after you've exerted yourself concert-moshing at Bitoz, doing ollies at Indo and top-roping at the Alaska Rock Gym? Well you might be hungry. If so, we offer you Middleway Café. Middleway Café is next to REI in Midtown and offers a flavorful menu of vegan, vegetarian, and healthful food choices. And, the food comes out fast, making it a great stop for a quick, good-for-ya lunch. So lets see... you've exercised, you've eaten and now you just want to hang out. ATMI takes you to Parachutes in the Dimond Mall. Parachutes is an extension of Youth for Christ and offers lots of different activities for youth ages 13 to 18. If you're in need of a fix of lounging around and hanging out or meeting up with a few buddies for a game of pool, Parachutes is a great place to go. When you're in the Dimond Mall and just a little tired after your extreme shopping routine, head on by Parachutes and just veg.
