Listen to it! Part 1 and Part 2

Today's teens definitely speak their own language. But do adults understand the lingo? ATMI hit the streets to see just what adults know, and here's what we found out.

What does LOL really stand for?

Chugiak English teacher, Ms. Meyer: "Love a lot."

Correct answer: LOL is short for "Laugh out loud," and is most commonly found in notes, e-mails and instant messages.

What does "Bling bling" mean?

Microbiologist, Ed Krysinski: "Freaking happening?"

Correct Answer: "Bling bling" is fancy stuff. For example, the chrome on a car or an excessively large and sparkling necklace.

Translate this sentence: "Yo dawg, that homeboy is posing it up JLo style, yo."

Chugiak history teacher, Ms. Eackberg-Brown: "Well, if that dog is posing it up Jlo style, it sounds like he's breaking out--that he might be doing something to gawk at this woman who has scanty clothes on."

Correct Answer: "Hello, friend. Golly, that boy over there certainly is pretending to be someone he's not, similar to the singer/actress Jennifer Lopez. Wouldn't you agree?"

Our results: Of the three adults interviewed--two teachers and one parent-none knew the answers to our teen trivia quiz. It would appear the generation gap is larger than we feared.
